Spring has sprung! BCSD Spring Break runs April 1-5. All students return to school on April 8.

We always feel lucky to teach our incredible students! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It is always a great time to get students excited about reading, but this week is extra special because it is Read Across America Week!
Philip Simmons High football players made a special appearance at the elementary school this morning to read aloud with students in the younger grade levels and encourage them to keep reading. The Iron Horses will also visit Cainhoy Elementary and Daniel Island School's classrooms this week.
Grab a book and read!

Our school social workers do a tremendous job supporting our students! The pearls of wisdom they provide to our school communities are invaluable. Be sure to thank a school social worker this week for the difference they make in BCSD! #SSWWeek2024 #makingapositivedifference

Surf's up with school breakfast! Did you know next week is National School Breakfast Week? For eating school breakfast, students will be entered to win daily and grand prizes from our child nutrition services team. #makingapositivedifference

Reminder: BCSD schools and offices are closed tomorrow, February 19, in honor of Presidents' Day.

Philip Simmons Elementary has some highly-motivated readers! Congratulations to the Iron Horses for being named an i-Ready Super School after putting in the work to have the highest percentage of passed i-Ready reading lessons out of all the elementary schools in the district this past month.

#DYK February is Love The Bus Month and this week is Bus Driver Appreciation Week? Our bus drivers and bus monitors play a critical role in ensuring our students get to school safely. Take a moment to thank them for their hard work this week! #makingapositivedifference #lovethebus

Our school counselors help our students succeed and always make a positive difference in our schools! Take a moment to thank a school counselor this week for National School Counseling Week! #NSCW24 #makingapositivedifference

Never miss a message from your child's teacher or an important school update again! Enable notifications in the Berkeley County School District app to stay connected to anything and everything BCSD.

Our teachers are LOVED! Dozens of our students asked to fill out thank you cards for their teachers tonight while we were at the SC Stingrays game!

Due to forecasts for continued severe weather resulting in area power outages, and concerns regarding impacts on roads and facilities throughout the evening, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) schools and offices will operate on a 2-hour weather delay on Wednesday, January 10.
There will be no before school care programs, but after school programs and athletics will resume normal operations on Wednesday.
Bus riders will report to bus stops two hours later than their regularly scheduled time. Information concerning school start times and bell schedules when operating on a 2-hour weather delay is available on the BCSD website here: https://www.bcsdschools.net/o/bcsd/page/school-bell-schedules.
District officials are continuing to work closely with the Berkeley County Emergency Management Department, local power providers, and law enforcement to monitor the weather and potential impact on the county. Officials are also receiving regular updates from the National Weather Service.
As safety and security is our number one priority, all decisions are made with the safety of students, staff, and families in mind.

Due to the potential for severe weather on Tuesday, January 9, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) announced that students will learn from home and complete eLearning Day assignments on Tuesday. All schools and offices will be closed Tuesday. Schools and offices will resume normal operations on Wednesday, January 10.

Last week, 4th grade students worked with an Artist in Residence, Ms. Cecilia Ho, to recreate landscapes from the Revolutionary War using felt. Before creating their landscapes they learned about different types of Fiber Arts, where felt comes from (Wool), how it's been used throughout history, and finally the process of felting itself.
Look at all the amazing landscapes that they created! Way to go 4th graders!

Thank you to all the veterans who stopped by to have breakfast with our students on Friday. We loved having you here!

Aren't we lucky to live in a place where we can have an ice cream social - outside - in November? Thank you to everyone who came out to talk to Superintendent Dixon, district officials, and Philip Simmons schools administration at Philip Simmons High last night.

Congratulations to Tatum Taylor on placing third in her age group at the Coastal Carolina Fair's Youth Art Show!

We are one of October's i-Ready Super Schools! This month's schools were selected because they had the highest percentage of passed i-Ready reading lessons. Way to go, Iron Horses!
